Ah, spring! The flowers are blooming and the birds are chirping, and it’s almost time for Sephora’s VIB & VIB Rouge 15% off sale!
Now, I know what you may be thinking. Isn’t it super un-minimalist to talk about a sale? In a black and white world, yes. But the world is not black and white. (But Sephora is… haha, pun.)
Living with less doesn’t have to mean living with nothing. I still shop, but I try to do it more consciously. Part of that means patiently waiting for products to go on sale. The caveat? I only allow myself to purchase items I have thought long and hard about. Anything that wasn’t on my radar before the sale doesn’t go in my basket.
Here are 10 items that I am seriously considering picking up at this year’s Sephora VIB sale. Perhaps purchasing new items isn’t exactly minimalist. But I am keeping up with my minimalist theme by seeking items that uphold the minimalist mindset that guides my life right now. For me, that means less “flashiness” and more “simple + fresh.”
Without further ado, these are the items that caught my eye this season!
ABOUT SEPHORA VIB SALE, IN CASE THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME
Sephora very rarely has sales– twice per year to be exact. The April sale offers a discount of 15% off, while the November sale offers 20% off.
As far as I know, (correct me if I am wrong,) the discount is only available to Sephora VIB and VIB Rouge members, and not to Beauty Insiders. So basically, you have to spend at least $350 per year just to get access to the elusive sales at all. To me, that’s a little crummy. Unfortunately that’s the way it is.
I used to be Rouge, but I have dropped down to VIB. I intend to keep it that way, just barely.
CHANGE YOUR MINDSET ABOUT THE MEANING OF “SALE”
Instead, treat yourself at random times throughout the year. Such as when you achieve a big goal you’ve been working toward. This way, you’ll associate treating yourself with hard work, and you’re less likely to purchase items you haven’t given much thought just because they are on sale and you “deserve it.”
SO WHAT SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR?
I recommend heading straight for the basics that fit in with your lifestyle.
Right now, that means products great for “no-makeup-makeup” and ethereal, glowy skin for me.
Kosas Tinted Face Oil Foundation // Full disclosure, I gave this product a serious side-eye until I saw Tati’s review! Until recently, the idea of putting oil on my face scared me as much as anybody. I’ve been using Tarte Maracuja Oil every morning for the last month or so and I’ve been liking it, and now I’m sold on using facial oils. I think this looks like a great 2-in-1 moisturizer/foundation that’s different from a typical BB cream. If I only buy one thing during this sale, it’ll probably be this.

Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Gel // It’s no secret the Anastasia’s DIPBROW Pomade is my brow product of choice because it is so versatile. I think the gel version will be great for days when I want a more natural look, but still want to keep my wild eyebrows somewhat under control.

Urban Decay Naked Reloaded Eyeshadow Palette // While yes, I am trying to use up the eyeshadows that I already own, this palette just looks so perfect. I love that the neutral colors I’d probably use the most are in larger pans. Plus, I feel like I can’t come up with a bad combination when I look at the shades. I could basically choose two or three shades at random and pull together a look.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Breakout Full-Coverage Concealer // I am just now admitting to myself that I am not a big fan of full-face foundation. I would much rather spot conceal just where I need coverage and leave it at that. Maybe I am being drawn in by the adorable packaging, but this looks like something that would fit right in inside my minimal(ish) makeup kit.

Smashbox Studio Skin Flawless 24 Hour Concealer // Another concealer, what can I say? This is one that I haven’t heard any buzz about in the beauty community, yet it got great reviews on Sephora.com. I have pretty much been layering different concealers every day to make up my ideal flawless-natural face. Because nothing looks more unnatural than an entire face that is the same color and texture all over.

Clinique Cheek Pop On-The-Glow Trio Palette // The individual Clinique Cheek Pop blushes are some of my favorite blushes because they blend so naturally and the daily design is just.so.pretty. I love blush, bronzer & highlighter trio, but it’s so difficult to find palettes where you actually like all of the colors. I have high hopes for this one.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Toasted Cardamom & Molasses // If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I loved these lipsticks a couple of years back. At the beginning of 2018, I was horrified to discover that I might be developing an allergy to it, so I didn’t wear it for a long time. A couple of weeks ago I decided to try them again on a whim, and my lips were perfectly swelling and itch free! The formula is so creamy and comfortable, yet it has a way of sticking to your lips like no other lipstick I have ever used. I’m so glad I’m not allergic to them.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution // My skin has always been weird. As in it is oily in my T-zone, yet flakey and dry on my cheeks and around my mouth. I have tried all types of exfoliators, but nothing has made a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. I have never tried a chemical peel before, and I am hoping it is the answer I’m looking for to balance and refresh my skin.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Hydrating Foundation Stick // Foundation in a stick has been my go-to product when I’m feeling patchy and have larger areas of discoloration to cover. I love how convenient it is swiping product on from the stick and blending with my fingers. Perfect for on-the-go millennials. Right now I am using up a stick foundation (Make Up For Ever, if you are wondering) that isn’t a perfect match for me. I feel like I can do better. I love the BareMinerals ethos and I really hope this stick foundation is as perfect in real life as it is in my head.

Cover FX Gripping Primer // Another discovery thanks to Tati. As you can probably tell, I am really into the “base products” right now. I want beautiful looking skin that doesn’t look like it’s flawless only thanks to layers upon layers of makeup. This primer seems so unique, yet so perfectly what we all want in a primer, which is to keep our makeup firmly in place. Since I’ve been wearing less makeup overall, I really want what I do have on to stay put and not melt off. If this works for me as well as it does for others, it’ll be a game changer.
