Halloween may be a favorite holiday of many, but it really brings out the lazy in me.
I’m the queen of easy (read: lazy) costumes. Ideally, I want to spend basically no time and no money creating a costume that makes me look like I’m not a total Halloween scrooge.
It’s a tall order when you’re feeling uninspired. But if you’re feeling this way, well, that’s why you’ve got me!
I’ve created the ultimate easy Halloween costume for lazy Halloweeners. You can clothes you already have, makeup you already have, and supplies costing less than $5.00, if you must buy them at all.
The best part? This easy Halloween costume is totally customizable. It can look however you want, and the crazier you go, the more effective it’ll be.
Ready to see what it is?
A different kind of scary this Halloween
Imagine this. What are you afraid of when you step foot in a Halloween party, or any party for that matter?
Is it the rubbery masks adorned on people’s faces, and not knowing who, (or what,) exactly is behind those masks? Or is it the very convincing faux blood dripping from the mouths and eyeballs of various gruesome creatures?
Sure, all those things scare me, but do you know what scares me the most?
The thought of being trapped forever in a bad picture.
You know the ones I’m talking about; you’re cringing just thinking about them.
You were likely drunk and wearing a terrible outfit. Your facial expression looks awkward. Perhaps you’re sporting a double chin. Not to mention, you wonder how your body even arrived in that unlikely pose.
And of course, you can’t forget the worst photo faux pas of them all — the dreaded red eye syndrome. Nothing makes a bad picture like red eyes.
So, I decided to embody my worst Halloween fear this year, using my red Halloween contact lenses from Spooky Eyes!
There’s really not much to this super easy Halloween costume
All you need are ugly things and a sense of imagination. Easy, right?
Get out your ugliest, most mismatched clothes. Got them? Great.
Now round up all the makeup that didn’t quite work out. You know, that awful shade of blue eyeshadow, a foundation that’s the wrong shade, and lip product in a color that makes you look ill. Perfecto.
A simple poster board frame – go crazy with the decorations!
To create the frame for my “photo,” I purchased an 18 x 24 inch poster sheet, cut out the middle, and added some decorations to indicate it’s purpose as a Polaroid frame. I chose to label my picture “Halloween Party,” but the theming possibilities are endless.
Your “bad picture” can be from any time of year, and from any occasion.
Another fun idea could be to throw on your ugliest Christmas sweater and recreate a terrible childhood Christmas photo. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got plenty of inspiration for this one.
A simple, ugly outfit does the trick
I went super simple with my outfit, because I wanted to keep this easy Halloween costume, well, simple.
For my top, I chose a rather stupid tank I picked up at Ross. It features two ice cream cones in rather unflattering places. Awkward.
For the bottom, I just wore some beige shorts. Now that I think of it, a pair of crazy-printed yoga pants world have really upped the ante. I’ll remember that for next year.
Obviously, the entire look is extremely simple — the most important part of this getup is your sense of humor!
Apply your makeup in the dark. Have fun with it!
I really wanted to highlight my “red eyes,” so I make sure the eye makeup stood out!
I applied some messy blue eyeshadow, and it really popped against the red contacts. If there is ever a good time to forget how to blend your eyeshadow, this is one of those times! Try using as few colors as possible, and instead just using just one or two colors all over the place. Remember, more colors equal more depth and dimension, which makes eyes look pretty. We don’t want pretty.

For blush bright coral color that make my cheeks look nice and overly rosy. Apply much more than you typically would. This exaggerates the “I’m trying way too hard in this photo” look.
Milani Baked Blush in Delizioso Pink >> Purchase on Amazon
On the lips, I threw on the worst possible color for my skin tone. For me, a light, blue-based pink looks absolutely atrocious against my yellow-based skin. The matte finish makes my lips look even chalkier. It’s perfect.

You wear whatever color looks terrible on you. (Such a weird thing to say, haha.)
To top if off, I didn’t brush my hair.
The finishing touches
To top off the ugliness, I purposely neglected a few essentials.
I skipped bronzer and highlighter because I wanted my face to look flat and white-cast. These are definitely two characteristics you don’t want in real life, but they work perfectly for this look. You want your face to look two-dimensional, dull, and lifeless. Just like a bad photo.
Mascara is essential for bringing life to the eyes. I skipped that too. It really highlights the incompleteness of the look.
We all know brows frame our faces, and there’s a tricky balance between two much and too little. Go off the deep end on whichever end of the spectrum you see fit. I went with the sharpie-brow look, but you could also try the “brow-less” look, and that would work just as well.
The ever unattractive “red eye”
For this look I was lucky enough to receive a pair of red Halloween contact lenses from Spooky Eyes. The contacts were labeled “Red Vampire,” and while they could be part of a beautiful vampire look, I wanted to do something a bit more creative than that. I mean, there had to be some other use for red contact lenses than just a vampire look, right?
Overall, I am very happy with these contacts. I have very dark brown eyes naturally, so I am glad that the red showed up against my eyes.
This easy Halloween costume is great for someone who wants a funky Halloween look without spending a ton of money, or who isn’t the too good (i.e. me) at fancy special effects makeup.
You don’t need to go over the top to have a great look this Halloween. Sometimes the simplest accessories can make all the difference.
And that completes this super easy Halloween costume!
