What I’m about to talk about is super out of character for me. Beauty items I’m NOT planning on purchasing this season.
Fall season is shopping season, especially in the Beauty realm. Tons of new releases spring up from every direction and it’s complete madness. If I wasn’t careful, I could easily max out all my credit cards buying new makeup that I sorta, probably, definitely, don’t need.
To keep my wallet and myself on good terms, it is just as imperative that I decide what I won’t buy in the coming months. Having a list of absolute NO’s gives me a framework for what I am looking for this season, and what I am willing to spend money on. Not to mention it makes the pool of possible YES’s that much more compact. It’s a win-win.
Now, this is not to say these are bad products. I wouldn’t know, as I haven’t tried them. These are simply things that I’ve decided aren’t worth spending money on at this time. Perhaps my opinion will change in the future. Who knows.
For now, here are the beauty items I can’t justify this year, and more importantly, why not?
The elephant in the room — Fenty Beauty doesn’t interest me
Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter // I don’t think I’ve ever been so un-excited about a makeup launch, and I have no idea why. Maybe I’m not in the mood, maybe my most trusted Influencers are skeptical, maybe I don’t like Rihanna’s latest song, I don’t know. I’m just not attracted to any of the colors, and since I’m so loyal to my Becca highlighters, I can’t justify purchasing any.

Fenty Beauty Match Stix Trio// Same thing with these. I have tried enough cream contour, blush, highlight, etc. products to know I just don’t enjoy them. Also, it seems as if the general consensus among many of the Influencers I follow is that these have some room for improvement.

Highlighters in crazy colors
Anastasia Beverly Hills Aurora Glow Kit // I am slightly confused by this highlighter palette. Am I supposed to use those as actual highlighters? Are they more for avant-guard looks involving unicorn-inspired lips, brow bones, and cheekbones? Regardless, I don’t plan on attending any music festivals any time soon, and I just can’t see myself sporting a blue cheekbone in my day-to-day endeavors.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit // No lavender highlighters necessary. Enough said.

Eyeshadow palettes I just can’t get on board with
Kat Von D Saint & Sinner Eyeshadow Palette // Kat Von D eyeshadow palette are always a baffling to me. Sometimes they are beautiful and look super useful. Other times, they look like this. When I see an eyeshadow palette that tickles my fancy, I have visions of all the looks I’ll create using all different combinations of eyeshadows. That doesn’t happen with this palette. Maybe I’m not “artsy,” but this particular mix of colors is not inspiring to me.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette // That above issue is NOT the case with Urban Decay Naked Heat. I absolutely love the look of this palette, which is why I already have several others that look eerily similar. Not to say that I am going completely minimalist, but I am trying slow down on the makeup buying. And I just don’t need another rusty red eyeshadow palette.

Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Highlighting Eyeshadow Palette Vol. III // I have to be honest, something about this palette is SO INSPIRING to me. I look at it and see so many elegant, champagne goddess kind of looks I can create. The problem? I already own all of these shades in various forms. Perhaps they aren’t all in one palette, but they are accessible. And they probably aren’t being used to their full potential.
Sometimes the purpose of a product is not for you to own, but for you to feel inspired.

Lippies I don’t want, *gasp!
Ciaté London Glitter Flip // This is a cool product, don’t get me wrong. But I’m in a more natural phase with my makeup style right now, and a transforming glittery lipstick doesn’t exactly fit into that aesthetic. Maybe next year.

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip // This goes along with the blurb about the Naked Heat palette. I love nude lip colors, but I love them so much that I already own way more than I can possibly use. I think a Shop My Collection day is in order.

Something so good I don’t need a new one…
Sephora Favorites Lashstash // Breaking a tradition this year! You may know that I have been obsessed with this mascara set, and I purchase it religiously every holiday season. You receive a bunch of new mascaras to try out throughout the year, so what’s not to love? Well, this year I’ve found so many favorites that I don’t feel the need to stock up on new options. I see that as a win. Lashstash, you’ve served your purpose faithfully, but now it’s time to say farewell.
