Do At-Home IPL Devices *Actually* Work? Your burning IPL hair removal questions answered by science!

I accept that everybody has body hair, including me. But that doesn’t mean I have to love it.

The world has gone through countless changes over the last 2 years. In the past, there were plenty things we assumed needed to be done outside of our cozy homes, long-term hair removal being one of those things. That is no longer the case, and today, we’re talking about it.

I’ll start by saying that there isn’t anything inherently wrong with body hair. In fact, body hair is just another one of those nifty updates evolution gave us in order to, you know, make sure we survive another day on this treacherous planet. We have to give it to Ms. Evolution for that. She just wants what’s best for us. Unfortunately, what was best back in the (prehistoric) day isn’t necessarily what is best for us *today*. Now that clothing is commonplace (a massive understatement), body hair for protection and warmth just isn’t needed.

All that being said, I also don’t think there is anything wrong with wanting to remove some or all of your body hair. You can denounce the social pressure imposed on women to maintain a standard of beauty that is honestly nothing short of a target strapped to the back of a hunting cheetah, but at the end of the day, can’t denounce anybody’s choice to do what they please with their body, regardless of how they came to their decisions.

So whether you just want to spend less time razor-in-hand, or if you want to live life slick-like-a-fish, at-home IPL devices are a great option for semi-permanent hair removal that won’t break the bank, and also won’t require you to spend hours in a salon with goofy goggles over your eyes.

Beauty guru culture has revolutionized how we wear makeup. That’s a good and bad thing.

Of course, I’m not blaming the beauty community. These beliefs manifested from my own shortcomings, and I want to make a conscious effort to abolish them. Makeup while wearing a face mask – necessary or overkill?

I really love masks. I’ll probably be wearing them forever, at least in some vein. Now that I think about it, I cannot believe I used to sit on airplanes with a stranger thisclose to me, breathing all over me, and I didn’t even care. It’s unbelievable, really.

Since I’m in it for the long haul, (and really, so is everybody else since we have no idea when this situation will end,) we might as well figure out ways to make the best of it. When I first started wearing masks back in April, makeup was completely off the table. Just having the mask on my face felt stifling and awful, and I felt like that’s all people noticed anyway, so why bother? I knew that my eyes and eyebrows were visible, but it seemed like nobody was looking at them. All people were looking at was the mask, silently judging its existence on my face one way or the other.

Now that my face mask is just a regular part of my wardrobe, I am starting to veer back toward my usual grooming norms. So basically brushing my hair, wearing a little makeup, and donning outfits that are a bit less Olsen-homeless-chic, if you know what I mean. But it hasn’t all been easy. Masks are quite different than any other accessory I’ve worn before, so they took some getting used to and I faced my share of problems, pun intended.

My face has not seen the outside of my house in nearly 5 months, and it likely won’t for the foreseeable future. This is what I’m working with now. And I don’t mind it.
