I know what you are thinking– “OMG, another mascara review. How many of those has this girl done? Does she wear anything else?
Well, actually, I don’t.
At least not on my lashes.
I am genetically blessed with pretty good lashes. However, I am not genetically blessed with awesome false-lash applying skills. So I insist on my mascara giving me enough of a length and volume boost so that I don’t have to struggle with applying false lashes that obviously don’t like me.
Don’t worry, I’m not being unreasonable. It is possible.
So, how did it go? Read on and find out!
Kat Von D Immortal Lash 24 Hour Mascara — The Basics
As you can probably tell, I have a deluxe sample of this mascara. It is very rare that I actually purchase a full size tube. (I purchase the holiday sampler sets from Sephora every year, and the samples end up lasting me all year, but that’s another story.)
This mascara is sold at Sephora, and costs $20.00 for 0.27 oz. of product. The quantity is average in comparison to what you get in other mascaras, however the price is one of the lowest, which makes me like it already!

Immortal Lash is formulated without sulfates and phthalates, and it claims to be infused with “conditioning vitamins A and E for soft, supple lashes.” That’s nice, but I really only care if it works.
Can we talk about that brush?!
I was actually a bit horrified when I first pulled that monster out of the tube. It made me think of something one might see in a Saw movie, which by the way, is my least favorite kind of movie ever.
The bristles, (which are made of silicone, by the way,) are spaced rather far apart on the bottom 2/3 of the brush. They are arranged in sort of a spiral pattern, kind of like a corkscrew. (Here we go with more scary imagery…)
The top 1/3 of the brush looks slightly more normal, though the bristle density is still more sparse than what is typical. The bristles stick out somewhat wildly from the brush, so it altogether looks pretty intimidating.

The application process sure was interesting
Since I don’t wear false lashes, nor do I particularly like tight-lining my eyes, (dang, I sure am finicky,) I need to get my mascara as close to the base of my lashes as possible so that they look full from root to tip.
With other mascaras, this isn’t a problem. But with the spiny bristles on this brush, I ended up stabbing myself in the eye a couple of times. It didn’t hurt badly, and I’m not blinded, but I was surprised by my mascara wand touching my tight-line. Next time, I’ll be more careful.
I do think the brush does a particularly good job of keeping the lashes separated. Since the bristles are so spread out, the product doesn’t get clumped up in the bristles, which would then cause may too much to end up on your lashes at once.
With this brush, I had to go over my lashes more times than I usually do in order to build it up to the intensity that I wanted, however my lashes remained clump free. I do wonder how much more I could have built it up before it began clumping, but I’ll save that for a day I don’t have to go out in public.
This is the look I ended up with — it’s pretty, but tame
I really like the final look that the Immortal Lash mascara provided. There is a decent amount of volume and length there, and my lashes still aren’t clumpy.
One thing I really like about this mascara is the brush’s ability to coat the bottom lashes without getting product everywhere. I typically have to use a special bottom lash mascara with a tiny brush for coating just my bottom lashes and not my entire bottom lid. It was surprisingly easy to avoid messes with this brush.
This is one that I consider a “natural” mascara. (In my world, at least.) These are quite important to have. Believe it to not, I too have days where I don’t want to pretend that I am wearing falsies, and instead I just want a little oomph to my real lashes. Immortal Lash is perfect for this.

The all day wear test
Everybody worries about mascara– Does it flake? Does it smudge?
To refresh your memory, Immortal Lash claims to be a “24 hour mascara.” It makes no claims of being waterproof.
I did not wear the mascara for nearly 24 hours, but I did wear it for a total of about 10.5 hours.
Throughout the day, my lashes felt flexible. This isn’t usually a benchmark that I measure my mascaras to, but I feel that this is important if you are one that likes a more natural mascara. My lashes remained nice and fluttery all day. They didn’t feel like a bunch of little toothpicks sticking out of my eyelids. Seriously, this is how I feel with some other mascaras.
Thanks to this flexibility, the formula did not flake at all.
However, by the 8 or 9 hour mark, I did notice some minuscule transfer onto my bottom lash line. I do tend to be slightly oily, so this is a somewhat normal (albeit, annoying,) occurrence for me.
My thoughts?
I like this mascara. However, I don’t know if I like it enough to repurchase it. Though the brush does work pretty well, I am still slightly intimidated by it, and I do have to apply about six coats to get my lashes to where I want them.
It’s just so strange, because when I think of Kat Von D makeup, “natural” is not the word that comes to mind. But, I will be using this on my natural makeup days, regardless.
So what do you think?

Hi Dani! As far as I know, all of Kat Von D’s products are cruelty free, and many are vegan. Kat seems like a total animal lover, so I doubt she’s have her company any other way! Thanks for reading 🙂 xo
