My July 2017 Sephora Play Box has arrived, and we’re opening it together!
This months theme is “Glamp Out,” which I assume is a pun for camping, because well, summer. We’ll talk about what I think of this theme later on in the post, but you can stew on that for a bit.
I am now on my third box, and so I believe I have a pretty good idea of what to expect as the months go on. For now, I plan on continuing my subscription, but I will definitely let you know if that changes.
Here’s what I got!
A little bit about Sephora Play Box
Sephora Play Box is a monthly subscription costing $10.00 USD, plus local sales tax. Currently, Sephora Play Box only ships in the United States, which is a bummer. Hopefully Sephora expands their service soon.
The box contains six products each month, one of which is a “free” perfume sample. I say free because it is literally the kind of sample you can get for free just by asking. But, moving on. Products include an assortment of makeup, hair, and skin products. If you’re hoping for a makeup box, then you might be disappointed.
Each box also contains a well-designed pamphlet explaining the products and a cute little bag.
fresh Rose Face Mask // This face mask is “infused with real rose petals” and is supposed to “hydrate & tone” your skin. The mask itself is a transparent brown gel with what looks like little bits of rose petals mixed in. Sounds like what I need. I can’t wait to try this.

Clinique Pep-Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser // My love for Clinique skin care is no secret around here. I can always use a new travel-sized face cleanser, and this will definitely be coming along on my next adventure.

Tarte Rainforest of The Sea Color Splash Lipstick in Set Sail // I tried on the lipstick and was surprised with how well the pigmentation held up through eating and drinking, and just living my day. The color isn’t exactly what I tend to wear in summer, but it’s going on my list of “must use” products for fall.

IT Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara // According to the pamphlet, this mascara seems like some sort of miracle product. It’s lengthening, volumizing, lifting, and it nourishes your lashes. Wow. I will try it out and let you know.

Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture Dream Come True Wonderful Deep Conditioning Masque // Hair styling is not my forte, and so I often just do the messy bun look and pretend my hair doesn’t exist. Surprisingly, I’ve never actually gotten around to using a masque on my hair even though I constantly complain about how dry it is. I should probably throw this mask on immediately. We’ll see how long it takes me to get around to it.

Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum // Nothing against Guerlain here, but this smells like a perfume my Nana would wear. I actually think it smells nice, although it is just a bit too heavy for my taste at the moment. Perhaps I’ll bust it out in the winter?

So, about the “Glamp Out” theme
Here’s the thing. I like the theme in itself, and I think the pink picnic table cloth printed bag is adorable.
However, the products included don’t fit the theme. None of these products scream “summer” or “camping” to me. I don’t know about you, but camping is the last place I’d be inclined to apply a hair masque or a heavy-scented perfume. And there’s nothing summery about that brown lipstick.
I don’t hate the products, I just wish Sephora put a bit more thought into creating a collection that works cohesively. Right now, the theme feels like an afterthought.
That’s all for today!
