When I was a teenager, I tried to get away with wearing a bikini top to church.
With a tank top over it, of course. My mom nipped that in bud *real quick*. TBH, I knew I was pushing the envelope, but I wanted to see if I could get away with it. Now, I could say that moment was the start of my obsession with wearing swimsuits as clothes, but it wasn’t. Actually, I just remembered that moment right now as I sit here writing this. It’s quite a recent desire of mine to add some of my swimsuits to my daily wardrobe rotation.
Though it would be easy to blame my mom in this story, my failure to pass the church dress code test probably had more to do with how I styled my bikini top than the actual inappropriateness of the outfit for the occasion. I could have done so much better.
So mom, if you’re reading this, know that you should probably avoid asking me to go to church. I’m a rebel, and I’m also not a quitter. One of these days I will show up out of nowhere rocking a “church appropriate” outfit featuring my favorite swimwear.
This is how you can wear your swim wear... everywhere. Click To Tweet
muted green bikini top + cream cropped cardigan + high-waisted jeans + platform sandals
A swim top with some extra length makes it look more like a crop top than beachwear. Balance the small top with high waisted jeans and added coverage (minus the bulk) with a cropped cardigan.
racerback swim top + high-slit skirt + matching sneakers + gold jewelry
Skirts like this one make me nervous, and wearing a swim bottom underneath makes the whole experience so much more comfortable. It’s like a bloomer. I also love the combo of a unique colored sneaker paired with a matching neutral-ish print.
ruffled one-piece + high waisted skirt + straw hat + platform sneakers + gold jewelry
Not leaving out people who aren’t into belly baring looks! This suit features tummy control ruching around the midsection and ruffles on the chest for added volume. Pair with a skirt worn at your narrowest point to put your best figure forward.
plaid one-piece + tie-waist cardigan + tailored shorts + leather sandals + crochet bag
This one-piece features an uncommon neckline for swimwear. The tailored shorts and cardigan pair well with the swimsuit and create somewhat of a “Hamptons” feel, which is pretty much all I want in a summer look.
cross back swim top + distressed short overalls + wedge slides + tortoise sunglasses
I take back what I said about the Hamptons look being all I want- I need this outfit too! The bikini top offers chic texture and color, and it’s an awesome contrast to the distressed short-alls. I can totally see myself rolling around the house wearing this.
ruffled bikini top + faded black jeans + flowy cover-up + wedge sandals
I love faded black denim for summer. The softer color gives it a casual look, and extra brownie points for a loose and grungy fit. Pair that with a super feminine ruffled bikini top, flowy cover-up and heels for a style no one can quite describe. And that’s what makes it cool.
