What’s worse than dropping serious cash on a high-end mascara, only for it to not work the way you hoped? Nothing, really.
Mascara is frustratingly of hit or miss. You never really know how a mascara will work out for you until you try it for real at home, using the wand the brand intended, and wear it all day long. It’s a struggle.
Drugstore mascaras are awesome because they greatly reduce the new mascara risk. They aren’t too expensive, and if you shop at places like Walgreens (#notsponsored) you can actually return anything you don’t like. It’s a win-win.
These are my current favorite mascaras you can find at the drugstore!
*UPDATED: New drugstore mascaras have been released since this post was originally published. In order to keep this info current and super helpful, I have changed some of my top drugstore mascara picks to keep up with the times. I plan on updating consistently as new products are released!
THE QUICK VERSION
L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara
I just feel so fancy using this mascara. But beneath it all, it’s just a great everyday-eye formula for me. It’s a wetter formula that takes a bit longer to dry, giving you plenty of time to work with it on your lashes.
L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara
It’s pink, it’s pretty, and it’s still one of my favorites! I love this one for the super voluminous look it gives. Almost like false lashes, which is the look I’m going for most of the time. It’s just the best.
Essence Volume Hero Waterproof Mascara
I just have to throw this one in here! This is a newer option for budget mascara shoppers. Pick up this mascara over anything else in the $5-ish price range. It offers big lashes for not a big chunk of change. Highly recommended.
Makeup Revolution Blowout Mascara
A newer option that is exclusive to Ulta Beauty. I haven’t tried this one yet, but that wand looks like it will do the best job of getting right down in-between my lashes. It also claims to be “enriched with cannabis salvia.” If you’re into that, perhaps give this psychedelic tube a try.
Maybelline Full N Soft Mascara
Volume, volume, volume! I want it all when it comes to mascara, and sometimes just one won’t cut it. I use this old reliable mascara when I want fluffy lashes without worrying about clumps. It layers very well, and I often top it with a lengthening mascara to give it that little extra boost.
L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara
An oldie but a goodie! Personally, I think L’Oréal outdid themselves with Lash Paradise, but this is still a really great mascara. If you’re a classics lover, then this is about as classic as it gets.
Maybelline Lash Discovery Waterproof Mascara
Why do waterproof mascaras suck so much? I don’t wear waterproof mascara often, but when I do, this is what I go for. It lasts through any crying, it gives just the right amount of glam (but not too much) for the beach, and it’s still easy to remove with a cleansing oil.
Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara
I feel like a butterfly wearing this mascara! The small and slim wand really gets the product down close to your lash line so your eyes look really deep and sultry. Hopefully that makes some kind of sense. I definitely end up looking like I have falsies on, which is what I want.
L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara
Another old favorite that never goes out of style. This mascara was my favorite for a long time, and I still think it’s a fabulous option if you’re looking for a natural looking lift and curl to your lashes!
CoverGirl Exhibitionist Mascara
Covergirl is now cruelty free! That’s even more of a reason to use their products, but regardless, this somewhat new release is just what I like in a mascara. The drier formula works beautifully right from the start. The shape of the wand is also helpful when trying to get to the lashes at the very corner of your eye.
That’s all for now!
