Skincare isn’t my strong suit. It’s kind of embarrassing.
For a girl who loves beauty as much as I do, you would think I’d enjoy the process of beautifying my skin from start to finish.
Alas, I’ve always been the girl to skip what I always considered “unnecessary” steps, and sprung right ahead to the “fun” parts, namely the magical skin-covering concealers and colorful eyeshadows.
It worked for a while, but as I’ve gotten older, my skin hasn’t been quite as forgiving as it once was. While my skin used to be super resilient to my continuous abuse, these days it’s it’s a lot more insistent on receiving the A-list treatments.
But that doesn’t mean I love answering to my skin’s pampering demands. I had some serious work to do in order to ensure both me and my skin remained sane and satisfied.
I came up with a routine that works for me, so that my skin gets everything it needs to stay healthy and beautiful, and I don’t go insane in the process.
These are my top 6 skincare tips for those of you who are super busy, who feel like you just don’t have time for skincare, or who just aren’t fans. Read on to learn about the most effective yet simplest skincare routine you’ve ever seen!
Make a routine and stick to it // I find that when I don’t have a plan, I don’t to anything at all. It’s almost like I have no accountability. Nothing is set in stone, so why even make the effort? When I have a plan, I do it and I do it well. It’s the Type A in me.
>> I suggest taking the time to plan out exactly what steps you must take in order to accomplish your skincare goals. Think about what issues you want to take care of, how much time you are willing to spend on your routine each day or week, and how many different products you want to use, and how much money you can afford to spend.
Place products where you will see them // Yes, the bathroom cabinet is a logical place for skincare. Yet when mine lived there, let’s just say it lived there for a very long time because it never got used.
>> Place your products where you eyeballs will surely land on them every day at precisely the right moment. I keep my morning cleanser in plain view right next to my toothbrush, displayed on a pretty plate, of course. My nighttime moisturizer lives on my night stand so I can’t “forget” to apply it before tucking myself into bed. Not everything must live in one place if that doesn’t work for you!
Head for the multipurpose products // I am the queen of time saving beauty, and so the last thing I want is a skincare routine with 10,001 steps. Products that can accomplish more than one task are my jam.
>> Think cleansers that work for both mornings and evenings, moisturizers gentle enough for your eyes, and oils that work on your face, body and hair. If you didn’t already know, I use Argan oil for just about everything, and it’s one of my absolute favorite multipurpose products.
Pssst! I have a full post all about how I use Argan oil when I’m traveling. Trust me, you’ll be amazed by all the possibilities! Check it out here >> Argan oil benefits + clever uses for when you’re on the go

Seek out “foolproof” products // Skincare need not be complicated and frustrating. I avoided skincare in the past because it just felt so complicated; I’d always struggle keep track of a ton of products and ensure I’m using them all correctly. It became easier not to bother. Masks needing to set for precisely 29 minutes and then rinsed with 72° filtered water over a solid gold sink? As if. (And yes, that is an exaggeration.)
>> Search for “idiot proof” products that prove impossible to misuse. I like non-drying and non-exfoliating cleansers, gentle clay masks, and moisturizers minus retinol and heavy fragrance. Go for products you can slather on, hang out in for way to long, and still have your skin looking fresh like you actually followed the instructions.

Associate masks with “me time” // As opposed to, ahem, “waste of time.” I know the benefits frequent face masks offer. And yet I can always think of something I’d rather do. I’ve had to retrain my brain.
>> Think of a passive task you really enjoy doing that you are going to do anyway. The more relaxing and unproductive, the better! Remind yourself to apply a beneficial mask before one of these tasks, and you’ll begin associating masks with enjoyable times. Personally, I put on a mask every day after I shower, and before I plop down on the couch for my cooling off and outfit planning session.

Use makeup with SPF // It’s terrible, but SPF still hasn’t made it to my “must do” list. (Yet somehow my eyebrows have? Don’t judge me.) SPF infused makeup is my best friend.
>> Reach for BB or CC creams with high levels of SPF to protect your face even when sunscreen moves to the back burner. It Cosmetics makes my favorite option because although it’s a CC cream, it still provides good coverage.
