Foundation is literally the foundation of our makeup. It makes sense that we want to find the best foundations for our needs.
Needless to say, I have tried out tons of foundations in my quest to conquer my sometimes oily, sometimes dry, overall flaky skin. (Did you catch the play on words there? You can take the girl out of the English class, but you can’t take the English class out of the girl.)
Right, now back to the foundations. If drugstore foundation is more your thing, then lucky for you, I recently did an entire post devoted to what I believe are the best foundations at the drugstore. Here’s that post if you’re interested >> Top 10 Best Foundations at the Drugstore (Best Drugstore Foundations)
But if you’re like me and you love a good high-end foundation splurge every once in a while, then this post is for you!
*UPDATED: New foundations have been released since this post was originally published. In order to keep this info current and super helpful, I have changed some of my top high-end foundation picks to keep up with the times. I plan on updating consistently as new products are released!
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream // This has quickly become my go-to face product when I need an all-in-one instant base. The formula provides solid medium coverage, and you can also build it up or spread it thin to achieve exactly the coverage you want. It Cosmetics also takes the cake when it comes to sun protection. SPF 50 is practically unheard of!
Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup // When I need super long lasting full coverage, nothing comes close to Esteé Lauder Double Wear. Other full coverage foundations will look amazing on my skin for the first few hours, but when they begin breaking down, you can really tell. This keeps my skin amazingly matte for hours on end. Perfect for events when I can’t be babysitting my foundation the entire time.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer // If you’re lazy like me, then two-in-one products are your best friends. This foundation is perfect for travel because it basically eliminates the need for a separate foundation and concealer. I find the coverage to be very versatile, as you can spread it thin for a natural look, but it also looks great built up for more pigmentation. For everyday wear, I like mixing a little bit in with my Tarte tinted primer for all over my face. Then, I apply it using the applicator to areas I would normally add concealer, such as under my eyes and over any blemishes.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12 Hour Primer SPF 30 // A tinted primer? You’ll either really love or really hate this one. I love it because it offers a unique, mousse-y texture that works well when you want that no makeup makeup look when I wear it alone. I also find it useful for under foundation. The smooth, silicone-like feel works well as a primer, but it also helps dull redness so I can apply less all over foundation. And of course, the extra SPF is always helpful.
BareMinerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 // A good mineral foundation is a must in every woman’s makeup kit; it’s just so versatile. There are lots of options out there, but I find that nothing works quite as well as the original BareMinerals. Buff the loose powder into your skin when you just want a fast and easy solution for dulling discoloration and shrinking the appearance of pores. Or you can use it to set liquid foundations to add an extra layer of coverage.

Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Foundation // I reach for Naked Skin One & Done when I really do want that “naked skin” look, but I don’t want to look terrible and sick. You feel me? I have this in the shade Medium Light, and a thin layer adds the perfect translucent veil of color just to help my pale face match my neck. It dull redness and blurs pores, yet besides the veil of color, it is practically invisible on your skin.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation // If you have super oily skin, this foundation probably isn’t your best bet for all over coverage. I tend to fall in that category, where this breaks down too quickly if I use it all over. Instead, I find this is the perfect product for touch-ups on the go. It’s so much easier to swipe my (sanitized) finger over top of the stick and dab coverage on whatever I want to cover. So convenient when you think about all the disasters that can happen when you’re dealing with liquid concealer.

Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation // Another full coverage option that is perfect for when you want awesome coverage with a slightly more natural finish. While the product is not invisible on your skin, the “beat face” look isn’t nearly as apparent as it is with heavier formulas like Double Wear. If your skin tone falls on either the lighter or deeper end of the spectrum, Urban Decay has a much better shade selection for you.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation // Born This Way provides medium to full coverage, though I consider it a step down coverage-wise and heaviness-wise from Double Wear. The formula is lighter and more gel-like, so it’s great for daily wear for ladies who enjoy more coverage but don’t want the painted-on foundation look or feel every single day. As opposed to All Nighter, which offers a million shades of medium, Too Faced offers a great shade range. That’s good for someone like me with a seemingly rare shade of medium (it’s difficult for me to find exact color matches), but it’s not great for others.
Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup // This is a new favorite for me, but an oil favorite for a lot of other makeup wearers. I didn’t try this one until recently because it didn’t stand out in the crowd of flashy packaging and thundering advertisements. There’s a reason why it has been around for so long! The formula is controls oil without being of the full coverage heavy variety. I use it sparingly on days when I want something a bit more than a BB cream, but that I can still smear on with my fingers.
