I have to say, I’ve really been loving receiving my Sephora Play Box every month. Now that I have been chronicling them for a few months, I can comfortably say I don’t foresee quitting any time soon!
Admittedly I can be a bit difficult to please when it comes to subscription boxes. (To hear more about that, have a look at this >> Ipsy Review + Why I’m Canceling My Ipsy Subscription). If I am going to commit to spending money on mystery samples every month, I need to make sure the items are worth it. At least most of the time– I’m not asking for perfection here, just reasonably valuable picks.
Over the last few months, Sephora Play Box has gotten their formula down to a science. I almost never end up with items I hate and have no intention of using. Because collecting cute samples is one thing, but putting them to work is quite another.
See what has me so excited this month as I unbox my November 2017 Sephora Play Box! Let’s get started.
This month’s theme is “Survival of the Chillest”
I’m getting a laid-back vibe from the collection this month. Totally welcome ahead of the busy holiday season! The products are all about pampering and treating yourself, while perhaps giving your everyday look a little boost.
From a personal standpoint, this is exactly the type of beauty box collection that I need. I go crazy for the newest and brightest makeup, and oftentimes leaving the basics in the dust. The November 2017 Sephora Play Box contains all those self love things that are great to have, yet not as fun to buy.
Lavish Lashes
Marc Jacobs Major Volume Mascara // I am always up for trying new mascaras, especially those of the volumizing variety. Those are my favorites! I haven’t heard very much about this Marc Jacobs mascara, but just the sample tube alone says “luxury” to me. Perhaps I’ll be daring and take it with me on my upcoming trip.

Unwind & Unclog
Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask // This is one of my all time favorite masks. I use it religiously once per week, and I think it helps keep my face breakout free for the most part. While I can’t see myself applying a mask while on my fast paced and not-so-relaxing theme park vacation, it’s always nice to have little backups of your favorite around. I highly recommend this mask.

Spoil With Oil
Moroccanoil Moroccanoil Treatment // Another product that I have used before and loved. My hair is thick, course, and perpetually misbehaved. Argan oil treatments are the only things that are effective at truly taming my hair. By that I mean addressing the root of the problem, which is dryness, rather than simply weighing my hair down with tons of silicone.
But to be completely real right now, when I see this product, it is the adorable little bottle that excites me most. It’s a thick bottle with a durable lid, perfect for refilling for travel.

Lip Luxury
Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Perfect Nude // An average lip gloss, nothing more, nothing less. Not to say that’s bad, just not super exciting. The formula is not highly pigmented so it should work on most skin tones. It has a light vanilla scent, and is what I would call a medium viscosity. Not so sticky that it is irritating, but still thick enough that it sticks around on your lips for a while. The mini size makes for a good back up gloss to keep in my makeup bag for emergencies. Lip emergencies? Am I serious right now?

Moisture Wanted
Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum // Skincare just isn’t my thing. For most of the year, I do the bare minimum necessary to keep my skin looking pretty good for the moment, without a shred of thought about the future. But since I will be spending some time in cooler weather on my trip, I think this moisturizing serum is a great thing to pack. The texture is thinner than I expected, and I find that it sinks into my skin very well and doesn’t leave residue behind. I think it will be great for extra protection under makeup.

Stop and Smell the Florals
Burberry My Burberry Blush // A sweet and floral scent, very girly. I don’t think it is the most seasonally appropriate one they could have picked. However, I do enjoy the scent as it isn’t too strong and I would feel comfortable wearing it. I don’t like feeling like people can smell me coming from a mile away. Perhaps this will be the perfume sample I actually use.

A little bit about Sephora Play Box
In case you didn’t already know, Sephora Play Box is a monthly beauty subscription box that costs $10.00 USD per month, (subject to local taxes.) Currently, it ships only within the United States, but I am sure Sephora is working on getting it available worldwide very soon.
Each box comes with five “official” items, plus one “bonus” item. In most cases, the bonus item is a perfume sample, but it sometimes changes month to month. You also receive a little pamphlet explaining each of the products, plus a card that you can take into your local Sephora store and redeem for 50 Beauty Insider points.
All of this comes packaged in a cute branded box, along with a little cosmetic bag. Side note: I’ve really been loving the new style of bags that have been included for the last few months. They are much roomier than other bags, so you can actually fit things in them. Plus, they’re super lightweight and perfect for packing small items when traveling.
That’s all for today!
