drugstore lipglosses and lipliners
Lipgloss and lipliner: two lip products that often get lost in the shuffle when we’re off adulting with our favorite lipsticks.
Along with eyeliner, lipgloss was one of the first makeup products I ever wore. For a while there, I owned way too many for a middle schooler. But then I discovered lipgloss’ grown up cousin, lipstick. I pretty much hurled my entire lipgloss collection out of my bedroom window because I was a grown up now. I didn’t touch a lipgloss for years after that.
Now that I have returned to reality from my “I’m a grown up now” faze, I have realized that lipgloss is not children’s makeup, but is actually a valuable part of my makeup collection. And as for lipliner, that stuff was never on my radar. I thought of it as a useless step that only weirdos who wanted cartoon character lips bothered with. Clearly I have changed my mind.
These are my top picks for the best lipglosses and lipliners at the drugstore this year!

Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish
Think about those glossy patent leather knee-high boots you wore to school every day in 7th grade. (Wait, was that just me?) Well, this is the lip gloss equivalent of those boots. It’s super shiny, extravagant, and over the top. Perfect for when you want to make a statement. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Pacifica Color Quench Lip Tint
An all natural lip tint formulated with avocado and coconut oils to keep your lips moisturized and pretty. It contains just the right amount of sheer color and subtle shimmer so that you look like you have something on, but is easily applied without a mirror. Plus, the tube is 100% recyclable. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shine
Honestly one of my personal favorite lip glosses from the drugstore. The formula is lightweight and non-sticky, but it still lasts a decent length of time on my lips. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid for extra hydration, and gives light-to-medium color opacity. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Maybelline Lifter Gloss
For a full coverage lipgloss from the drugstore, this is a great choice. It has a sweet vanilla scent, which is my favorite. The formula is on the thicker side, and it provides a nearly full coverage look. The shade range aims to provide a nude gloss look for all skin tones. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Honest Beauty Tinted Lip Balm
This natural lip balm has basically replaced my Chapstick. I love that it is Vegan, cruelty free, and contains no synthetic fragrances. The sweet scent comes naturally from the coconut oil base. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Milani Keep It Full Lip Plumper
The matte lipstick trend may be on its way out, but full lips are still very on trend. But how are you supposed to achieve that without lipliner and am opaque lipstick that won’t budge? Lip plumping glosses are great for giving your lips a little boost without the dryness. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Almay Goddess Gloss
The ultimate lip topper. This products feels off brand for Almay, but I’m not complaining! The lipglosses in this line aren’t really wear-them-alone kinds of colors. They are what the cool kids would call “halo.” (Who knows?) Add this over your favorite lipstick for an entirely different, multidimensional look. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Wet N Wild Mega Last Stained Glass Lip Gloss
A lip gloss and stain all in one. This product comes in six vibrant shades, and applies like a regular lipgloss. When the gloss wears off, you’ll be left with an intense stain on your lips. I can see this being wonderful for applying the morning to get the stain, and then reapplying a comfy lip balm for the rest of the day. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

Essence Stay 8H Waterproof Lipliner
My basic, everyday, go-to lipliner. It’s retractable so I don’t have to deal with the sharpener, and the shades are very sensible. None of them are particularly exciting, but if you are looking for a no-nonsense lipliner that is creamy, won’t tug on your lips, and won’t let you down, this is what you need. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

NYX Slim Lip Pencil
This pencil formula is an in-between texture: it’s not dry, but it’s not overly creamy either. The texture makes it excellent for over-lining your lips without making yourself look like a toddler who got into their mom’s lipstick. It also works well as a sort of lip primer to help your lipstick adhere and last longer. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

NYX Bare With Me Cannabis Lip Conditioner
A good lip conditioner is a necessary step in the winter time, even when you live somewhere where 70˚ is your definition of “cold”. (Ahem, that’s me.) This is a nourishing clear lip oil that achieves the perfect balance between soaking into your lips, and sitting on top. It actually conditions your lips and doesn’t just coat the surface, which often leaves your lips even more chapped once the product wears off than before you first applied it. But it also doesn’t sink in so quickly that you need to reapply every 10 minutes in order to keep a barrier on your lips. | ⇢ READ REVIEWS

These are great suggestions! The Rimmel nude eyeliner is my holy grail cheap trick for looking awake super early. I really want to try the Nars primer. Great post!
Kay says
Clearly I love them too! Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for reading, Kathleen! 🙂 xo
Kristen says
Omg that eyeliner trio looks gorgeous! Are they long wearing? I can’t wait to try them!!
Kay says
Hi Kristen! To be totally honest, the Physicians Formula eyeliners aren’t the longest wearing eyeliners I’ve ever used. They tend to fade on me after a few hours, but I still like them because the first two shades are unique. They’re great for a quick romp around town for a few errands. Hope this helps. Thanks for reading! 🙂 xo

I am obsessed with Sephora’s eyebrow pencil but nobody talks about it! I have no idea why. It’s such a good alternative for those of us who don’t want to spend 20+ dollars on one eyebrow pencil.
Kay says
I know, right!? I’ve been on a mission to spread the word about the Sephora Retractable Brow Pencil. I think it’s awesome, (obviously.) Yeah, some drugstore brow pencils are cheaper, but when I’m trying to make VIB Rouge for the year, I’ll buy everything I can from Sephora, haha! Thanks so much for reading! 🙂 xo

Love that becca primer!! ❤
Kay says
It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites too, clearly 😉 Thanks so much for reading, Amber! xo
Naima says
I love that you included a mixture of drugstore and sephora brands! Also, I totally agree with the ABH dip brow! I’m currently using ebony but ill probably be getting an ashier pomade for the summer so its less harsh.
Kay says
I’ve never heard of Ashier pomade, I’ll have to give that one a try! I always include products at many different price points because I know everybody’s makeup budget is different. I want to make sure everyone feels welcome here! Thanks for reading, Naima! 🙂 xo
